New posts at Postcardart.net and Quietspaces.net blogs as well as LiveJournal and Facebook. Mostly about my recent ER trip; ran into unexpected breathing problems a couple days after I caught Al's cold and had to make an after-midnight run to the ER for a couple inhaler treatments to get the breathing back into a regular pattern. I now have my own inhaler set-up, which works quickly and effectively. Still have to ditch the cold, however, which is really a nasty one. Al's still got it, and he came down with it almost a week before I did.

Also, you might check my Facebook Page or my Website journal for my posts concerning Richard Bolles' What Color Is Your Parachute? (2012 ed.). I've just today gotten the ebook and have been spot-checking with reference to the TOC, and there's some great stuff on integrating your job search with Internet networking resources. You really need to know the "what" as well as the "where," "why," and "how," so at least drop by a bookstore and take a look at details before you set about implementing the project.

Authors Den

Does anyone use Authors Den, these days? I finally tracked down my log-in information and did a brief update on my author page, there.

The Blue Angels rehearsed this afternoon. We were so totally on their flight path! For the air show, Saturday and Sunday, it at least will be one time through the show each day.

New Facebook Page

I am separating my photo art and other creative endeavours from my business page (thewrittenword) on Facebook. When I get 25 "likes" on the "Liz Bennefeld, Artist" page, I will apply for a short link.

I have changed templates on one of my blogs and changed several header graphics to shots I took in Manhattan in 2007.

I have done far too few of the things I had planned to do, but I am quite ready to be back into the social networking activities, although not so heavily as I had been this last while. I am in the middle, now, of Fukuyama's Political Order and I just started volume 5 of the Harry Potter series, which I ordered a few months ago. . . . I should make a list of the books I have read so far this year.

Quiet Spaces Update

I have added a recipe for a tasty lunch salad for one to My Kitchen at Quiet Spaces. There's a link to it also from the corresponding blog post.

One of my summer squash plants (out of the eight that I planted) has multiple flowers on it. I am hopeful! (Just have to beat the rabbits and the squirrels to the produce. (Mother has a very funny story about a tug of war between herself and a squirrel over the last zucchini. I wish I could tell it as well as she can.)

RedBubble.com has added a new, less expensive purchase option for Photo Art: photographic prints in four sizes, from 12x8 to (as much as) 30x20 inches. Here is "Rain with Hollyhocks."

Also, this would be a good opportunity to treat yourself to a photographic print of Anthony Jalandoni's "A Breath of Fresh Air." I certainly intend to! My favorite photo ever!

Another Productive Day

I posted my most recent three RedBubble.com gallery photos on my Postcard Art blog. Got the sheets washed, the second half of the garden weeded, wildflower seeds sown, and managed to stay off of the social networking sites, today. I think I might just watch a movie tonight and then go to sleep early. As soon as I find the flash drive that contains all the photographs that I took today and look through them.

Reorganizing

At my blog on Wordpress.com I am returning to more of what I originally started with, and that's less trivia and more thinking. Hopefully! Plus more cross-linking to relevant posts and pages on my other blogs. Additionally, I have put new categories in place: Earlier Work, Recent Poetry and Recent Prose, with some items under each category.

For now my really sober stuff is being written elsewhere under a pseudonym. Think "Morning Pages"!

The past while I have joined and been reading some of the groups over at LinkedIn. Check out my Public Profile. I am quite open to adding friends, colleagues, former college acquaintances, etc., to my contacts list.

I have been trying out the about.me site (a web-based business card). I set one up for Quiet Spaces and one for The Written Word. The card includes a message option, which makes it suitable, I believe, for staying in permanent contact, since one can change the email address the messages are forwarded to.

My business Facebook page, which does double duty, publicizing both my photo art and my resume- and letter-writing services, now has a shortened URL: http://facebook/TheWrittenWord

My Postcard Art photo blog actually has postcard art on it with links for buying the same or similar postcards through RedBubble. And of course, I continue to upload my favorite photography and photographic art pieces to my RedBubble portfolio.

At my Quiet Spaces LiveJournal account, as well as at Facebook (also QuietSpaces), I have a new occasional series of photographs: Lunch Buddies. Due to my ongoing problems with mixing up the hardboild with the raw eggs, I have taken to drawing faces on the cooked eggs prior to refrigerating them. And so I (usually) take portrait photos of the eggs in various kitchen settings before peeling.

I think that I have a poem coming out in the third-quarter Star*Line, the quarterly magazine that is distributed to all Science Fiction Poetry Association members; others can purchase single issues via the Web site.

My definitive gluten-free bread recipe is now available at my Quiet Spaces blog. The magic ingredient is Montina pure baking supplement (Indian ricegrass from the Montina company in Montana).

There's other new stuff scattered here and there...which will keep until another time.

New header images

Now that it's April (spring in North Dakota), I'm changing out header pictures on my blogs. Now that it's April (spring in North Dakota), the allergy index has risen from 0 to 9.5 (tomorrow's forecast) on a scale of 0 to 12. I think that means I will not be able to breathe freely again until sometime in November or December.

A Long Overdue Update

I have made some changes since the end of June 2010 that I should perhaps share, since they will affect the people with whom I do business.

Because most of my clients find The Written Word through referrals or on the Internet, I have dropped my land-line telephone and had that number ported to my Verizon cell phone. So, my telephone number has remained the same, but it will be dropping out of the print business yellow and white page listings. And, since I almost always have my cell phone with me, I'm able to get out of the office more frequently.
I got overloaded some years back with academic style editing and took a break from it, aside from one client who was just embarking on her PhD nursing program.
Dropping academic style editing provided the opportunity to concentrate on helping more people with their job search strategies, resumes and letters, not to mention having enough time to get to know the folks I'm working with.
I have found that I enjoy the current emphasis on job search work, adding in shorter typing, writing, and editing jobs as they come along.

I am still doing photographic art, which is available through RedBubble.com. Yesterday I received a packet of 4"x6" greeting cards (half my designs and half other people's); the quality of Red Bubble's product pleases me. I hope to get back into the practice of sending notes occasionally in order to justify the indulgence.

Looking forward to a long, mild spring, slow melting, and warm summer breezes.

I read Dreams of the Compass Rose, by Vera Nazarian, when it first was published in a paper edition. Marvelous reading! If you are not familiar with Vera's writing, here is a chance to start out with what is perhaps her best work . . . although Lords of Rainbow was really good, too.

Photos Online

I am trying to be more timely in letting folks know what is happening, but...not doing so well. Sorry!

I have quit posting daily photographs at JPGMag.com and canceled my ewb user ID there because of a loosening of restrictions on photos that I would just as soon not run into on a daily basis. I have opened a new account there (quietspaces), but am just keeping it alive by posting photos specifically to themes and challenges.
I have moved my *good* stuff to http://QuietSpaces.RedBubble.com, where in addition to browsing, you are welcome to indulge yourself by purchasing a postcard or greeting card. (BTW, one of my photos was selected yesterday as one of the "featured" photos of the week by the Flowering Bulbs group.)
I am beginning to put smaller versions of my photo paintings in a special album at Postcard Art, and that probably will branch out into various groupings.
Still working on weeding out and organizing my photos at my LiveJournal site (which is also user ID quietspaces).

I hope that you come across photo art pieces that you enjoy.

I have added more gluten-free recipes at my Quiet Spaces blog. Have been doing fairly well, this spring, until Thursday and Friday, when the MCS and tree pollens finally caught up with me. Am going to try getting back on the exercise bike, today, after having missed two days. (Hate having my total miles for the week under 50.) Updating "The Art of the Moment" is next on my list. Totally blew the April poetry writing. It was nice to have another solid month of free-lance work, however. Good trade-off.

The Written Word on Facebook

I am now on Facebook. At my brother Tim's suggestion, I got a personal account some time ago (look for Liz Bennefeld). This week, I added a "local business" page for The Written Word. I expect it to be easier to keep it current for office hours, vacation days, and such. In spite of the hazard of perfumes, fabric softeners, lotions, and hairspray, I still enjoy being able to meet with customers when I can. In the course of conversations, topics arise that should be addressed, but wouldn't have surfaced, otherwise. I (usually) like the challenge of unexpected problems to solve.

I have added a "My Kitchen" section to my Quiet Spaces blog. (I know, not a photo blog at this point, but what is one to do?) So far I have added oyster loaf, macaroons, peanut butter cookies, depression cake, and egg custard. Everything is (or can be made) gluten free.

Poem a Day update

I missed some days, Nov. 6-9, but have now gone back and picked up Nov. 6 with a poem about "Coffee After Lunch." I plan to get current by the end of the week.

Piano practice (will I ever get back to where I was?) is going reasonably well, and I am at least playing a little bit each day.

I like a lot of the poems I'm writing this way. My favorite, so far, is "Out of Time," from November 14th.

Decided not to do NaNoWriMo, this year. It's been a couple years since I joined in. I did, however, decide I'd try to write a poem a day during November. The first one, a haiku, I stuck on my photo blog at quietspaces.net. The next two are at themomentsbetween.net/blog, starting at "Alien Life," which is where I plan to put the rest of them.

I wrote a poem for the SFPA's 2009 On-line Halloween Poetry Reading. The audio file can be found toward the bottom of the Halloween page. I also wrote a poem, "At Allantide," for the 2007 reading; there are links at the top of the page to Halloween 2006-2008. The text for "Halloween at the End of the Universe" is also at themomentsbetween.net/blog

This has been a scattered summer and fall. Writing, dancing, playing piano...not spending nearly so much time on the Internet.
